When Power Protects Itself: A 3-Part Series on Abuse, Silence & Survival

by | May 12, 2025 | News

This series started with a name. Deputy Jeffery Freeman.

An officer hired, promoted, and arrested for sexual assault in less than 90 days. It led us to Clark County, Indiana — where women were brutalized after jail staff gave male detainees access to their unit. Some were raped. Many were punished for speaking out. Most never saw court.

It ends here — with No One Came Forward — not because the story is over, but because the silence has to stop somewhere. Across these three episodes, we ask:

• What happens when officers harm people they’re sworn to protect?

• Why does the media soften the truth when survivors are behind bars?

• And how can a sheriff convicted of theft face more accountability than the women harmed under his command?

About The Show

This podcast series was born out of a desire to bring renewed awareness to Joseph’s case, hoping to find the answers his family still seeks. But “A Heavy Weight” isn’t stopping there—future seasons will focus on other cases that deserve the same attention and investigation, continuing the mission to uncover the truth and bring closure to those left in the dark.
